GRUNTER LIKE THE BURNETT

The 2013 flood in the Burnett River left Bundaberg with a number of scars that they are still recovering from. But what impact did the flood have on the fish? About a year after the flood there has now been a significant upsurge in the number of Barred Javelin (Grunter or Trumpeter depending on where you are) in the river. In the year since the flooding taggers have tagged an average of 5.6 fish/day with 1 tagger tagging 46 fish each day on 2 days at the start of this year. The previous best effort was an average of 3.5fish/day from 2000-2004.
